Dubai Metro restored after hour's disruption

The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has reinstated the Dubai Metro service back to normal, following the suspension of the service from Jafiliya Station to Nakheel Station, near the Dubai Internet City and the American University.

The RTA said in a statement this evening that the service disruption, which lasted for one hour, was caused by an emergency technical glitch that was attended to promptly by the operating company, which rectified the fault and resumed the service.

The Metro continued normal service between Rashidiya Station and Jafiliya Station, and also between Nakheel Station and Ibn Battuta Station. During the service suspension time, the RTA deployed a number of public buses to shuttle the Metro passengers between Jafiliya and Nakheel Stations.

The RTA apologised to Dubai Metro riders for this emergency technical fault; which it said was  beyond its control, and thanked passengers for their cooperation with the metro staff in the metro stations.

Dubai Metro halted, thousands of commuters stranded

The Dubai Metro between Internet City station and Emirates Towers station has come to a still since at least 5pm today afternoon in both directions.

Dubai Metro's customer service representatives said the standstill is due to a technical glitch, which has not been resolved until now. When the problem started and when the metro will resume its service is not clear at the time of writing this report.

"We were not  allowed to enter the platform," says B.C. from South Africa, a stranded commuter who intended to take the metro from Internet City in the direction of Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT).

"I saw a team of search and rescue personnel entering the ticketing area, but all commuters were blocked from going in. There was no announcement made, and everybody was confused as it was not clear what was going on," he added.

Buses are reported to be full and taxis hard to find, as people are scrambling to find alternative means of transportation.
