After the KHDA released its report on schools this year, schools have started increasing their fees.

Dubai Modern High School run by Gems has announced its fee hike this year. In a circular (dated 4th June) issued to parents, the school has notified about the fee hike for 2012-2013.

“With reference to the recent notification from KHDA regarding the fee increase, I would like to share with you the mandate – KHDA approves three per cent as Educational Cost Index and three per cent for our outstanding status as per the inspection reports from the Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau.

“This 6% fee increase is with effect from April 2012. Arrears for April and May 2012 may kindly be paid along with fees for June 2012. Please find attached the fee structure for 2012-13 after KHDA approval,” the circular read.

The school fee for children in Grade 1 and Grade 2 have gone up from Dh30,300 to Dh32,118 and it goes up to Dh42,050 for kids in Grade 11 and 12, which was earlier Dh39,670.

The school had announced a 90 per cent fee hike when it moved from its old location in Jumeirah to its new campus in Nad Al Sheba.
“I saw this coming. Last year there was no fee hike. This year they got an outstanding ranking – it was bound to happen,” a parent told this website on the condition of anonymity.
