Dubai number plate auction nets Dh25.895 million: L16 goes for whopping Dh1.9m

The proceeds from the 78th number plates auction recently held by the Licensing Agency, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), in Dubai Police Officers’ Club hit Dh25.895 million.

The two-, three-, four- and five-digit licensing numbers for private vehicles was a well-received by community members.

“About 120 distinguished numbers were put on sale and around 120 participants of various ages and segments took part in the auction,” said

Mohammed Abdul Kareem Nimaat, Director of Vehicles Licensing, RTA Licensing Agency.

The plate {L 16} was the sale’s topper fetching Dh1.9 million, followed by plate {N 70} selling for Dh1.64m, and plate {L 1111}; which brought back Dh890,000.

The plate {L 55555} was exchanged for Dh1.13m, while plate {L 7860} was sold for Dh63,000.

The auction saw constructive competition between participants who showed great amount of zeal and interaction, knowing that it was the closing auction for 2012, he noted.

The auction also proved to be diverse and comprehensive, encompassing a sundry of licensing plates for private vehicles, he added. “The Licensing Agency is always seeking to run such auctions, be it open or online, in order to meet the aspirations of the public in buying unique numbers through the means that suit them on a transparent platform,” said Nimaat.
