Dubai patient to get Dh1m compensation for botched surgery

Dubai Court of First Instance has issued a verdict in the favour of an Arab national, ruling that a surgeon, a medical centre and an insurance company to pay Dh1 million, jointly, as a compensation.

In the case, reported in Emarat Al Youm, the 27- year-old Arab man was subjected to a surgery but claimed that the surgery left him with partial paralysis and disability.

In a lawsuit filed by lawyer Abdullah Al Nasser the doctor, the medical centre and the insurance company were asked to pay jointly , Dh10 million as compensation.

The court said in its ruling that it had taken the decision based on the Supreme Committee ruling for medical liability and by checking the patient's medical file, which confirmed that his disability was due to medical negligence.
