Dubai Police: Fine for using mobile phone when driving Dh200 and 4 black points

Dubai Police caught at least 37,000 motorists speaking on mobile phones while driving in the first 10 months of this year.

Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Director, General Administration, Dubai Police, said: “Until the end-October 36,726 motorists were nabbed for holding mobile phones and speaking while driving. Last year, 44 090 drivers were caught for the same offence.”

“This offence is one of the main causes for traffic-related accidents,” he said and added that it is unfortunate that some people continue speaking on mobile phones despite safety campaigns.

The offence calls for Dh200 fine and 4 black points.

Speeding car hits lamp-post in Fujairah, kills driver

A speeding motorist was killed when his car hit a lamp post in Fujairah.

According to Fujairah Police, the driver, an 18-year old Emirati died on the spot.

The vehicle was completely destroyed following the accident.

On October 27 two people were killed when their vehicle hit the curb and then the lamp post in Fujairah.

Fujairah Traffic Police Department (FTPD) have kicked-off a major traffic awareness campaign with the slogan: ‘Don’t put an end to your life by speeding’.

At least 18 have died and 81 seriously injured following 5,282 traffic accidents recorded in Fujairah during the first half of 2012.

Police have increased the number of patrols and speed cameras across the emirate since the launch of the campaign.
