The Dubai Police has begun operating a "Smart Controller" device, which has nine features that make it different from previous technical control devices, including a radar, with the aim of increasing safety on the roads.

The device includes a comprehensive system of technical features that can assist officers from traffic departments to maintain safety on the roads, improve electronic road surveillance and capture serious violations by drivers, along with promoting the Dubai Police strategy to assure that Dubai is a safe city.

During the launching event, which took place at the Dubai Police Club in Al Garhoud, and was attended by Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of General Traffic Administration, and Brigadier Abdullah Abdulrahman bin Sultan, Director of the Future Vision Centre, as well as experts from a Chinese traffic safety systems company, Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Dubai Police General Commander, stressed that the launch of the Smart Controller device is part of the smart transformation in all areas of police work and the adoption of advanced innovations that support the strategic goals of the Dubai Police. He added that a technical work team was assigned to implement the Smart Controller device system, which will increase the level of surveillance on external roads and maintain road security.

He also stressed that the General Traffic Administration has implemented several initiatives and awareness campaigns to prevent traffic accidents. It has also intensified its traffic patrols and field presence along public streets where the numbers of accidents have increased, as well as its use of advanced technologies to monitor people who violate traffic regulations, he added.

Major General Al Marri stressed that the Dubai Police are keen to harness the use of advanced technologies, to create a safe community in Dubai, which is reflected in its performance throughout recent years, with regards to its important duties, making the Dubai Police a model to follow in professional police work.

Brigadier Al Mazrouei stressed that the Smart Controller is characterised by its high level of accuracy, its clear images and its ability to move remotely on metal barriers. The device also includes a high-quality monitoring camera, a vehicle number reader and a radar, and can also monitor speed limit violations and traffic jams. It further has a direct-broadcast feature that is managed by the control centre, as well as an alarm to transmit warning messages.
