Dubai Police has dismantled a gang of drug traffickers and arrested five people with 30kg of heroin in their possession.

Major General Khamis Mattar Balmazina, Commander in Chief of Dubai Police, said the drug trafficker intended to store the heroin in the UAE before re-exporting it to a European country.

Colonel Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, Director of the Drug Enforcement Administration in Dubai, said the process of arresting the five men began on January 20.

Major General Balmazina said the chief suspect, who was a member of an international gang, was arrested in a hotel on Airport Road in Dubai. A number of passport of different countries and 20kg of heroin were found in his possession.

The other four dormant members of the gang were picked up afterwards. One of them was a truck driver, one a businessman and two were scrap dealers.

The four suspects were arrested near a shopping mall in Ajman where the truck driver had gone to deliver 10kg of heroin to another member of the gang.

Balmazina said Interpol has been informed about another leader of the gang living outside UAE and the country’s airports and seaports have been alerted.
