Dubai Police rescues two men lost 1.5km deep in desert

Dubai Police has rescued two men after their vehicle got stuck in the desert behind the Dubai Sports Club on Hatta-Oman road.

Lt. Col. Ahmad Atiq Burqebah, Acting Director of Search & Rescue Department of Dubai Police, said that Dubai Police control room received an information about the stranded men at 11.25am.

"A rescue team immediately set out towards the desert. Using smart technologies, police located the stranded men and their vehicle among sand dunes."

The men were nearly one-and-a-half kilometer in the desert away from the main road, hence rescue team reached them after a great difficulty to due density of sand. The men, who were provided water and food by the rescue team, are in good health.

Lt. Burqebah called on members of the public to carry GPS devices at all times to keep track of their location, and also download Dubai Police’s SoS app for smart phones, allowing security services to reach them quickly in case of an emergency.

He urged people going into desert to take food, especially liquids, satellite phones and navigation device which help the rescue teams to know the whereabouts of the people.

For their part, the rescued men thanked all members of Dubai Police for their prompt action which saved their lives.
