A woman  averted a disaster and escaped unhurt after Dubai’s police intervened to stop her car which developed brake failure while driving near Jebel Ali at135kmph.

Nawal Hussein said she saw death before she was surrounded by police cars, an ambulance and a police helicopter as she continuously honked to alert other drivers.

“I lived my worst moments and saw death approaching as I was locked inside my car without brakes,” she told Emarat Al Youm Arabic language daily.

She said police cars and ambulance surrounded her vehicle while a police helicopter hovered above minutes after she made an emergency call.

“The police gave instructions to stop the car by turning the engine off and moving the gear to neutral, but the car did not  stop. The ambulance then drove just ahead of my car and I was told to crash my vehicle into the ambulance,” she said.

“But I could not. My car then started to slowdown as it is fitted with systems that make it to slow down when it approaches other objects. The ambulance then unleashed its siren to alert other cars before my vehicle came to a standstill.”

The paper did not specify Nawal’s nationality but said she staged a big party at Mafraq Hopsital in Abu Dhabi, where she works, to celebrate her escape.
