As summer has set in and people are planning their holidays, Dubai Police has called upon holidaymakers to register for free home safety programme.

Colonel Jamal Salem Al Jalaf, Deputy CID Director for Crime Control Affairs, said on Tuesday that residents can subscribe to a new smart application – a service to enhance security.  The service can identify their home location and link them to the concerned police stations via Google maps.

The number of houses under protection has risen in the last couple of years. Col Jalaf said, “The numbers rose from 137 in 2008 to 282 in 2014 – a 14.6 per cent.”

Col Jalaf explained that subscribers can download the app on smartphones and fill in the required information, including photos. “Police would then send a preventive police patrol to the residence and secure the premises until the owner returns from vacation,” he added.

Throughout this month, Dubai Police aims to spread the message on social media sites to inform residents before they go on holidays.

Police also advise public to deposit their valuables and cash in banks when they are not at home.  Informing relatives and friends is another step that needs to be taken.
