Dubai rain: 330 accidents in just 7 hours

Dubai Police said on Monday said its Command and Control Center received 330 traffic accidents reports – six of them serious – during seven hours from 6am to 1pm.

Brigadier Omar Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Director of Command and Control Center at Dubai Police, asked drivers to exercise caution while changing lanes, warning that rules and regulations must be observed during rain and fog.

He said most of the accidents happened during rain or fog due to poor visibility and it could become even more dangerous if drivers are negligent and reckless.

Dubai Police tweeted on Monday morning that several small traffic accidents had resulted in traffic jams in several areas due to the rain. However, by lunch time, traffic was crawling back to normal, though very slowly.

Brigadier Al Shamsi called on drivers to ensure that their cars’ windshields, glass windows and headlights are clean and check their vehicle before starting their journey.

He asked motorists to keep safe distance between the vehicles and don’t use hazard lights except when they’ve parked the car.

He urged motorists to use wipers while driving to prevent the accumulation of water on windscreens and to get rid of the steam that accumulates on the windscreen inside the vehicle.

Al Shamsi asked drivers to be alert and anticipate untoward events when there is poor visibility during rain or fog.
