Four Chilean men came to the UAE on a visit visa with the aim of making quick money and leaving, but their plans quickly backfired when they were arrested and Dh500,000 loot recovered from them by the Dubai Police.

Stalking a rich victim, the four finally targeted a man who has just withdrawn Dh500,000 from a bank in Al Rafaa area, put the money in an envelope and left it on the seat in his car.

As he drove away from the bank, the four waved him down to indicate that one of his car tyres was flat.

The man instantly stopped, got out of his car and checked the tyre, but all the tyres were ok, while the seat where he had left the envelope was empty.

“The man looked around but could not see the four men. Only then did he realise he was a victim of a well-planned burglary. He immediately informed the police,” the Dubai-based Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm said.

It quoted Dubai’s CID chief Major General Khalil Al Mansouri as saying police quickly managed to identify the four thieves by monitoring exchange shops in the hope they would try and transfer the looted money.

“The four were arrested and the money was recovered within 24 hours expect for a few thousands. They were seized in Sharjah in collaboration with the police there and nearly 35 security men were involved in the operation. They had come on a visit visa and were staying in Sharjah separately so they would not be suspected.”
