The driver of the bus that was involved in the Saturday morning crash in Dubai has been detained for questioning, according to a top police official.

Salah Bufrousha Al Falasi, Head of Dubai Traffic Prosecution, told Emirates24|7, the driver who was receiving treatment is ready for questioning.

Dubai Attorney-General Issam Issa Al Humaidan asked for investigations into the accident and reports to be filed as soon as possible.

The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.

Investigations would be conducted to check if the driver was under the influence of drugs, medications or alcohol, or if he had fallen asleep while driving, he said.

Meanwhile, 13 survivors are discharged form Rashid Hospital and Al Baraha Hospital after receiving treatment. Two others are still in the hospital and their condition is reportedly stable.

Dubai Police is recording statements of workers who are discharged from hospitals. Police will also speak to the two hospitalised workers, once their condition improves.

Truck driver failed to leave distance: Al Falasi

Meanwhile, Al Falasi said, the 40-year-old Pakistani truck driver had parked the truck on the side with the rear left tyre on the yellow line.

Initial investigations prove that the right front side of the bus collided with the rear left side of the truck causing the bus to flip over to the second lane, he added.

The truck driver failed to leave any distance between the truck and motorists using the right lane of the road, he added.

The truck driver said that he parked the vehicle because of a break failure and had placed a fire extinguisher behind the truck to alert motorists.
