Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road is set to get another 100-storey plus skyscraper, Emirates 24|7 can reveal.

The tower will be part of Dubai International Financial Centre’s (DIFC) new master plan, which was unveiled at Cityscape Global in October.

“The tower is part of our new master plan and is being developed by the Al Jaber Group,” Brett Schafer, Chief Executive Officer, DIFC Properties, told this website.

It will be a mix of residential, commercial and hotels.

No other details were given.

The development cost of the new master plan, over 10 million square feet of land, is estimated at Dh15 billion with DIFC expecting to complete the plan in the next 10 years.

Last month at Cityscape, Meydan Group launched Entisar Tower, a tower on Sheikh Zayed Road that will have over over 100-storeys.

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) data reveals there are only 21 towers in the world (constructed/under construction/proposed) over 100-storeys high.

In Dubai, there are only two completed towers over 100 storeys - Burj Khalifa, (160), is the tallest tower in the world, while Princess Tower, (101), is the tallest residential tower in the world.

The 101-storied Dream Dubai Marina (previously named Marina 101) is under construction and is scheduled for completion by end-2014.

On completion, it will be the world’s tallest serviced hotel apartment tower.

The UK-based EC Harris has already stated that within the next decade, the trend of building “megatall” towers – those which reach more than 600 metres high – is likely to increase, particularly in the Middle East.

Besides, CTBUH data reveals that the UAE is third on the list of countries that have most buildings higher than 200 metres.

In Dubai alone, there are 19 buildings taller than 200 metres and 18 of them are on Sheikh Zayed Road.
