Dubai will soon have several themed markets to cater to the increased demand among the public apart from serving as tourist attractions.

Dubai Municipality has carried out many projects to set up markets in the emirate such as Al Fahidi market, truck market, pet market and fish market in Hamriyah area, Deira.

These markets, established under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, are expected to take a big leap in the economic growth of the emirate and add several new tourist attractions in the city of Dubai, according to Hussein Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality.

Bird Market

"The bird market is established in line with international standards. It comprises 80 shops for selling pet birds and animals along with pet food and accessories, as well as a clinic for the treatment of these animals according to the most advanced  methods and practices," he said.

Lootah said, that the municipality conducted surveys among public and customers which led to the adoption of a proposal to establish a market in the neighbourhoods that accommodate workers and technicians in all areas of work that could be needed by the public in their daily life.

Al Fahidi Market

"The soon-to-open Al Fahidi Market will include a hypermarket and about 145 shops in addition to restaurants, cafeterias, jewellers and foreign exchange offices. The traditional market has been established on the basis of ancient and modern traditional occupations of the UAE people with the participation of Architectural Heritage Society," Lootah said.

Truck Market

"The truck market, to be opened by this year-end, will accommodate nearly 88 units for the sale of large heavy-duty trucks. DM has coordinated with all heavy vehicle dealers in Dubai,” he explained.

Fish and Vegetable Market

"Considering the lack of enough space and the growing demand for fish, vegetables and fruits, the municipality is establishing the fish and vegetable market in Hamriyah, replacing the old market. There would be a large dock to handle boats loaded with fish," he added.
