All roads and streets in Dubai will be named by the beginning of 2015, a Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) official was quoted as saying by ‘Al Bayan’ newspaper.

Maitha bin Udai, CEO at RTA said that the introduction of the new addressing system started in 2012 and will be finished by early 2015.

The address system divides Dubai into 13 sectors.

A pilot project for a new postal addressing system on Sheikh Zayed Road - between the second and fourth interchanges -  is also in place.

The current phase includes the naming of streets in Al Warqa’a, Al Khawaneej, Al Quoz and Barsha, while the first phase included street names in Umm Suqeim 1, Umm Suqeim 2, Umm Suqeim 3, Al Sufouh 1 and Al Sufouh 2.

She said that the second phase will include the naming of streets in Al Nahda, Al Muteenah, Muhaisna, Oud Al Muteenah, Nad Al Sheba, Al Thanya and Dubai Investments.

She added that the project will facilitate quick access to specified destinations and that there will be big boards on the main streets in each neighbourhood with illustrations and arrows pointing to specific streets.
