The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has clarified that private schools in the emirate are allowed to charge 10 per cent of tuition fee as re-registration deposit.

“A school may charge existing students up to 10 per cent of the school’s tuition fees as a re-registration deposit to confirm the return of existing students in the new academic year,” explained Mohammed Ahmed Darwish, Chief of Regulations & Permits Commission.

The registration and admission fees are regulated according to the fee framework.

“This deposit should be deducted from the total tuition fees for the academic year in which the admission is being sought,” he added.

Dubai’s education regulatory board recently introduced a 'Parent-School Contract' which clearly addresses the schools tuition fee charges and deposits, acting as an essential tool for developing positive and cooperative relationships between schools and parents.

The contract fully outlines the expectations and responsibilities of both parties.

“A school may charge up to 30 per cent of the school’s tuition fees as an admission fee to new students in confirmation that selected students will opt to take up the offered places.

“This fee should be deducted from the total tuition fees for the academic year in which the admission is being sought.”
