Dubai schools with seats for Sept session...

Most schools in the UAE seem to have stopped taking applications for the new academic year that starts this September, leaving some parents in the lurch, who may have just moved to the country scouting for a school for their ward or just looking for a change from the one they currently study in.

Even as most schools now say they are running full for the year, some institutions are still taking applications for 2103-14 with seats available.

While getting a seat in one of Dubai’s schools at this stage will be nothing short of a miracle, a handful of reputed schools in Dubai are still accepting applications. The Dubai American Academy, for one, which was rated outstanding this year by Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), is currently accepting applications for grades 1 through 5 but only on a wait-list basis for the school year beginning September 2013.

Gems Wellington Academy in Silicon Oasis is also currently accepting applications for September 2013. For FS1 and Year 1 – Year 6, applications are being accepted to waiting list only; for Year 7 – Year 12, spaces are available but FS2 is closed to all applications.

Waiting lists are closed for Foundation 1 & 2 and Years 1 up to Year 3 in Star International School Umm Sheif but it is currently accepting applications for Years 4 up to Year 9.

Raffles International School, which runs classes from KG to Grade 7, is open for the academic year 2013-2014, commencing September 2013.

Repton School is also open to admission for some grades. For the academic year 2013-2014, there is no availability for nursery and reception but is open to from Year 1 to Year 10 except Year 3. Waiting lists are closed for all applications for Year 11, 12 and 13.

Additionally, there are some new schools coming up in other emirates, most notably Abu Dhabi, that have availability across all grades for the upcoming school year.

GEMS Cambridge International School in Abu Dhabi is open for enrollment. The school will only be open until Year 8 this September and will eventually expand until year 13.

“I’m happy to know that seats are available in Abu Dhabi schools. I understand there was a lot of demand this year as many people moved to the city from Dubai because of the new rules. I have three children and they are still on the waiting list of some schools,” said a parent who has just relocated to Abu Dhabi from Dubai.

Even though admission at this stage may not be easy as schools accommodate last minute entries, these few opportunities do offer hope to parents, especially those who thought of keeping their families in their home countries to avoid schooling problems.
