Dubai seizes 623 kilos of drugs in first half

Dubai seized nearly 623 kilogrammes of drugs in the first half of 2010, more than double the quantity busted in the same period of 2009, police said.

They said 588 drug dealers were arrested in 410 narcotics cases by Dubai’s General Anti-drugs Department in the first six months of this year.

According to the Department’s Director Major Abdul Jalil Mahdi, around 309kg of drugs were seized in the first half of 2009, involving 536 cases and the arrest of 768 people.

“These figures show there was a decline in the drug quantity and cases this year. This is because a large number of drug dealers have been seized and imprisoned,” he was quoted by 'Alkhaleej' newspaper as saying.
