Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), part of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has bought new cars from Toyota and Lexus, including the Toyota Camry, Hiace and Innova, and Lexus ES from Al Futtaim Motors, exclusive distributor of Toyota and Lexus in the UAE. As part of both companies’ longstanding partnership, Dubai Taxi Corporation will take ownership of an additional 1,487 new Toyota and Lexus cars, worth an estimated Dh120 million.

The announcement was made at the 2nd Mena Transport Congress and Exhibition 2016, taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre, where Dubai Taxi Corporation has a special stand, shared by its strategic partner Al-Futtaim Motors, to showcase the latest technologies and services offered to consumers.

The contract was signed by Abdulmohsin Younes, CEO, Rail Agency, and Head of the Supervision committee over DTC and Bertrand Thiebaut, Senior Managing Director of Al-Futtaim Motors, and was attended by Mohammed Obaid Al Mulla, Member of Executive Board of Directors, RTA and Dr. Yousef Al Ali, CEO of Dubai Taxi Corporation, in addition to senior personnel from both organizations.

Dr. Yousef Al Ali, said: “As part of Dubai Taxi Corporation’s strategic vision, we are always looking for new ways to better serve our customers. As a result, we held a limited tender with

distributors for the purchase of 1,487 vehicles, which Al-Futtaim Motors won, considering the longstanding strategic partnership between our organizations. Dubai Taxi Corporation runs around 5000 vehicles working around the clock, with Toyota vehicles accounting for the largest part of our fleet with approximately 4,000 taxis, which constitutes around 83% of the fleet, as part of a partnership that has stood for more than 20 years.”

“We have also received 246 Toyota Camry Hybrid vehicles, as part of a comprehensive framework to reduce carbon emissions to create a more environmentally friendly Dubai. This is in-line with the strategic ‘safety, environmental sustainability and a green economy’ plan to support Dubai Government’s green vehicles initiatives for a cleaner environment, as well as part of the RTA’s plan to convert all taxis into hybrid eco-friendly vehicles,” he added.

As part of the agreement, Al Futtaim Motors will provide DTC with technical and after sales support, in addition to providing training to the DTC’s technical and support staff, in addition to providing all necessary manuals and spare parts.

Commenting on the partnership between Al Futtaim Motors and the Dubai Taxi Corporation, Bertrand Thiebaut, Senior Managing Director of Al-Futtaim Motors, said: “We are honored to have won this bid, and this is a confirmation of our partners’ trust in the quality of our vehicles and the service that we provide. As for the Camry Hybrid taxis which are part of this agreement, they are proof of the unifying vision and concerted efforts between both organizations to provide sustainable transport solutions for a greener environment.”
