A ten-day drive for cleaner roads in the city and to send across the message against throwing  out waste on to the streets has started by Dubai Municipality with an official inauguration at DM headquarter in Deira.

The drive, conceptualised by the Waste Management Department with the civic body, will focus specially on drivers, road users, school children and generally ,on public.

In the inaugural session, senior officials of the civic body including Asst Director Generals Salah Amiri and Eng. Abdullah Refee attended.

“It is primarily to control the bad habit of throwing out wastes from the vehicles .We are on constant actions to raise awareness against spitting, throwing out cigarette butts and general waste on our public roads. Intensifying  law enforcements like imposing fines also on the cards” said Abdul Majed Saifaee, Director, Waste Management Department while he was explaining the drive.

“According to local order no.11 /2003, fine for throwing waste on to public roads is AED 500. But we believe in making people aware regarding this bad habit. That is why we repeat the campaign every year and that is only the right way to uproot misbehaviours” said Saifaee answering to the questions on the fines to be imposed upon the violators.

Apart from Municipality officials, representatives of other organisations also participated in the launching event.

Lectures, workshops ,film screening, awareness drives for road users and visitors, competitions and other activities will be organized as part of the campaign.

Campaign activities will be held at Jumeira ,Diyafa ,Ethihad, Al Nahda, and Al Wasl  Roads
