Three major accidents on Sheikh Zayed Road, mere kilometres apart, have resulted in a gridlock on the major highway, heading southbound in the direction of Abu Dhabi.

Multiple crashes have also been witnessed on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, bringing traffic to a near standstill this morning.

While Al Khail Road has been bearing the brunt, the situation dampened for commuters when another accident on Hessa Street, heading towards the E11 exit has also caused tailbacks that connect on to the highway.

Meanwhile, earlier on, the busy highway the Al Safa bridge, connecting Meydan Road to Al Hadiqa Street is also facing slow moving traffic.

Other problem areas this morning include Oud Metha road near Wafi Mall, along with Al Mankhool Road, in the direction of Jumeirah.

There is also slow-moving traffic on Al Wasl Road, near the Union Coop junction.

While commuters in Abu Dhabi are being warned over foggy conditions in the Western part of the emirate, specifically near Liwa, where visibility had dropped to 800 metres.

Accidents abound

An eyewitness to one of the accidents on Sheikh Zayed Road spoke to Emirates 24|7, with Jigna S saying: “The accident occurred earlier in the morning, around 7.30am, right near the Jebel Ali Metro Station exit.

“A silver-coloured sedan has badly been crushed from two sides, resulting in the right two lanes of the highway closed to traffic while a tow truck and several police vehicles were on the scene cleaning up debris.”

She added: “It appeared the car may have been hit from two sides, or it perhaps crashed into the central divider and boomeranged onto the highway again.”

An ambulance was also reported on the scene by commuters.

Another crash has been reported a few kilometres behind the first, while a third has been witnessed opposite the Danube Metro Station, resulting in tailbacks that stretch towards Al Barsha and the Hessa Street exit.

The situation of E311 is just as dire, with three separate accidents reported on the busy highway, in the direction of Dubai, with eyewitnesses reporting a crash near the Airport Road/Al Khawaneej Road junction, followed by twi near the Al Nahda Road intersection with Al Muhasinah bridge.

Commuters are being advised to find alternative routes.
