Dubai Tram on the road again... in phase 2

If you are in Knowledge Village or Dubai Media City today you can spot Dubai Tram make its first entry into the area, as phase 2 of the trial period kicks off.

Road and Transport Authority (RTA) commences with the second stage of testing on Wednesday, [April 16]. It will take place in Zone 2, starting from Dubai Knowledge Village and ending in Media City. The tram will run along four stations - Marina Towers, Mina Seyahi, Media City, and Palm Jumeirah - where it will eventually connect to the Monorail of the palm-shaped island.

The launch of the next testing phase concludes a successful trial of the tram in phase 1, where the tram made its first appearance outside the tram depot, passing along Al Sufouh Road towards Knowledge Village and back.

If everything goes according to plan, Dubai Tram can be seen in Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT), Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) and Dubai Marina in its final phase of testing starting from June 14, 2014, and on November 10, 2014 it will officially become a mode of transport.

- Dubai Tram will serve 11 stations on a 10,6 kilometers long track

- Connect with Dubai Metro at two stations –JLT and Dubai Marina

- Run every 6 minutes from 5.30am until midnight

- The complete journey will take 43 minutes

- Will ride at a speed of 50 kmph

- Has 7 carriages and three classes - a silver class, a gold class and a women and children class

- Will be operated with on-ground electric wiring, an eco-friendly transport

- Will have a driver

- Obstructing a tramway is an official offense

- Tram officials may give instructions that must be followed, also by road users surrounding the tram
