Nine people of an Arab family, including children, sustained injuries when a fire broke out in their three-storey villa in Mirdiff area on early Monday morning.

Lt. Col. Ali Hassan Al Mutawa, Director, Operations Department, Dubai Civil Defence, said they received information at about 1.53am and immediately the Rashidiya Civil Defence team rushed to the site and successfully doused the balze, reported 'Emarat Al Youm'.

Two members of the family fractured their legs when they jumped down from the second floor to escape the fire, while the housemaid suffered burn injuries, he added.

Civil Defence officials used a mobile ladder to rescue the maid who was trapped inside her room and was rushed to hospital.

The team successfully doused the fire within 15 minutes before it could spread to the neighbouring villas, the report added.

The two members who had fractures also suffered from asphyxia and were taken to hospital.

Five others of the family who were hurt also received treatment.
