DubaiSat-1 captures UK's Millennium Dome

No, this is not the Dubai Creek. It is a picture of the Millennium Dome on the banks of the Thames River in London. The image was taken by DubaiSat-1, the first satellite built by Emirati engineers of the Dubai-based Emirates Institution for Advanced Science & Technology (EIAST).

DubaiSat-1 was used to highlight London, which will host the Olympics from July 27 to August 12 2012.

"The summer Olympics in London has a special significance for the United Arab Emirates" said Ahmed Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General of EIAST.

"It is a matter of pride for all Emiratis and residents of the UAE since our football team is headed to London to take part in the Olympics for the first time. We wish our team and the UAE Olympic contingent all the very best," Al Mansoori added.
