An Egyptian and an Emirati received three years in jail followed by deportation for the former on the charges of theft using a knife and consuming alcohol.

On November 19, 2009, FNN, Egyptian, 31, jobless, and SJG, 39, Emirati, jobless, had entered a flat that offered massage service in the Al Rifaa area impersonating police officers and asked everyone to gather in the hall while threating them with knives.

Abdul Razaq M, 52, Iranian investor, and Vigyan M, Indian, were there for a massage. They were asked to go to the hall by the two men, one of whom was speaking in a Gulf and the other one in an Egyptian accent, they testified.

The two did not know what is going on until were asked to hand over their wallets. The men took cash from the wallets totalling Dh10,000 and also stole Abdul Razaq’s mobile phone and left the flat.

The two victims ran behind the attackers. Abdul Razaq caught one of them but the thief threatened him with a knife so he let him go.

Abdul Razaq rushed to support Vigyan who was calling people in the street to help catch the thief. After 20 minutes of chase the three reached a sandy area. Vigyan threw sand on the face of the thief but the latter was quicker and hit Vigyan’s hand with the knife.

A passing police patrol reached the scene and chased and arrested the thief.

Police confiscated Abdul Razaq’s and three other mobile phones and Dh6,000 cash from the thief.

Ismaeel Mohammed, 24, Emirati, policeman, testified that a notification was made to his patrol by the operation room about a theft in the Al Rifaa area and that one of the suspects had a knife.

The patrol saw the thief running and holding a knife and the other two running behind him. He caught the accused identified as FNN after a short chase, Ismaeel testified before prosecution.

Abdul Razaq and Vigyan told policemen that there were other three with him. Police arrested SJG while the other two are fugitives.

The two have confessed before prosecution that after consuming alcohol the four agreed to rob everyone in the flat that offers massage services. So they took large knives to execute their crime.

The accused were smelling of alcohol when they were arrested and tests proved they had consumed alcohol.
