Eid holidays to start from August 19

Ramadan may begin on July 21

A UAE astronomer has forecast the Muslim's fasting month of Ramadan might start on Saturday, July 21, and the Eid Al Fitr is likely to be on August 19.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Astronomy Researcher and Supervisor of Sharjah Planetarium, said that the birth of the crescent moon will be on Thursday,  July 19, 2012, at 8:24 am (UAE time), and the sunset will be at 5:09 pm, while the moon will set two minutes after sunset.

''The crescent moon of Shawwal 1433 will be born on Friday August 17, 2012, at 5:54 pm local time, and the sunset will be at 6:49 pm same day," he added.

Al Jarwan said sighting the crescent would be impossible on Thursday night, but it would be visible on Friday night.

Therefore Saturday, July 21 would be the first day of Ramadan, he anticipated.

Dear Emran, Eid holidays are public holidays, and regardless of religion it is given to all employees (there are a few exceptions like doctors, police etc). During Eid all offices remain closed, if you have to work on a Eid day it's against your labour rights. And Akmaad most offices do give less working hours, in usual cases the working hours are reduced to 6 to max 7 hours per day, so here again its a wrong practice where you're working. hope my comments help. and Ramadan Kareem to everyone :)

Hopefully, we will have our Eid Holiday. Last year we didn't have it, our boss told us that we are not Muslims. It's Legal?

It would be better if we get 5 days holidays for this Eid as we don't have much holidays apart of these two special occasions

Ramadan Kareem... Hopefully, UAE Government should impose a guideline regarding the Ramadan office hours. 5 years in UAE since we don't have less working hours.

We should have more holidays as we have only 2 occasions for celebration every year.
