Additional bus routes within the city and between the emirates have been deployed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Sharjah in preparation of the Eid holidays.

A total of 2,415 bus trips will be made every day, including 915 intra city bus trips and 1,500 intercity trips, said Abdul Aziz Al Jarwan, Director of the Transportation Department.

With regards to the buses within the emirate, he commented that 75 additional buses will be deployed instead of the usual 58. The buses will run extra bus services especially during peak hours.

More than 300 buses will run between the emirates along 15 different routes to guarantee that the headway between buses will be no less than 5 minutes, said Al Jarwan.

Moreover, intercity buses will be operated one hour later to do the last round at midnight, while the Sharjah-Abu Dhabi route will run until 12.30.

Additional staff has been scheduled to attend the call center of the Sharjah Taxi to respond to the highest number of phone call request possible. All taxi services – family taxis, ladies-only taxis, taxis dedicated to the disabled, normal vehicles, and pre-booking services - will be available 24/7, he added.

Abu Dhabi Police prepares plan to ensure traffic safety during holidays

The Abu Dhabi Police, represented by Traffic and Patrols Directorate, is implementing a comprehensive plan to ensure the safety of motorists and road users during Eid Al Fitr holidays.

As part of the ‘Your Safety’ campaign, traffic patrols will be increased on intersections, parks, external highways, and near mosques to organise traffic and prevent traffic congestion.

Brigadier Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, stated that police patrols will be intensified at all times of the day on the roads leading up to mosques and prayers areas to facilitate the access of worshipers. He added that patrols will be also intensified in public gardens and parks to avoid any traffic jams.

Colonel Hamad Mubarak bin Athath Al Ameri, Head of the Capital’s Traffic Department, Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, indicated that the directorate will increase patrols in areas that witness traffic density during the holidays, especially in prayers areas, parks, and key intersections, as well as near malls that witness heavy numbers of citizens and residents during the holidays.

Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi, Head of Peripheral Regions Traffic Department, urged motorists to observe traffic laws and regulations, avoid over-speeding on both internal and external roads, fasten their seatbelts that provide high level of protection in the event of a traffic accident, pay attention to children’s movements inside the vehicle, and place them in the back seat of the car.

He urged motorists to be cautious and warned them against leaving their vehicles unlocked in front of prayers yards, while performing the Eid prayers or in front of shopping malls lest they should be exposed to theft.

Al Ain Police to intensify its efforts during holidays

Meanwhile, Brigadier Hamad Ajlan Al Amimi, Director of the Al Ain Police Directorate, said efforts will be intensified to maintain the public’s safety at various areas across the city of Al Ain, such as prayer areas, gardens, public parks and residential streets. He also noted that police patrols will be deployed at these locations to provide assistance to people when needed.

Brigadier Al Amimi also urged parents to remain cautious and ensure their children's safety by deterring them from playing with fireworks. He also called on them to refrain from leaving children unattended in dangerous places during the holidays such as streets and swimming pools.

He added that all police stations will constantly be ready to communicate with the public and receive their calls for help, wishing everyone happy and safe holidays.

Al Ain Traffic section warns motorists against the risks of parking at roundabouts

The Al Ain Traffic Section affiliated with the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police has warned motorists against the risks of parking at roundabouts; particularly near mosques that are crowded which could hinder traffic movement and cause traffic accidents.

Major Matar Mohamed Al Muhairi, Acting Chief of Al Ain Traffic Section, called upon motorists to abide by traffic laws and regulations while performing prayers. He urged them not to park their vehicles haphazardly, to avoid blocking entrances or other vehicles by parking directly behind them, and to follow the instructions of traffic policemen.

He also stressed the importance of following traffic laws and regulations, reducing speed before Sunset Prayer, refraining from running red lights, paying attention while driving, using seat belt, refraining from using mobile phones while driving, maintaining sufficient distance between vehicles, and remaining watchful on the roads to avoid any unexpected occurrences.
