Eight years in jail for issuing 23 bad cheques

An Indian contractor was sentenced to a total of eight years and three months in jail for issuing 23 bad cheques of more than Dh5.5 million.

A compatriot ESA received three years for sharing with the contractor MLA the responsibility of issuing one of the 23 bad cheques.

MLA also has been awarded another five years and three months jail term for 22 bad cheques complaints filed against him by different companies one of which was by National Bank of Dubai and subject of a cheque valued Dh3.273m.

MLA confessed before the Dubai Courts of Misdemeanour along with the accused and told the jury presided by Judge Zakariya Abdul Aziz that he had issued the cheques prior to the economic crises and that he had lent the market Dh66m which he had been unable to collect for the same reason.
