Fatima Al Kindi, Head of the Social Support Section at the General Department of Human Rights at Dubai Police received several cases of elderly neglect during the first quarter of this year reported Emarat Al Youm.

She told Emarat AL Youm that most of the reports are of elderly suffering of loneliness and neglect from their family.

She also added that most of the cases comes because of excessive sensitivity and unwilling to leave their homes.

She added that among the cases, one mother complained of her sons’ negligence and another complained about staying stay with her sons.

Meanwhile Al Kindi said the sensitivity of the elderly people and their inability to move in and out of the house as well as the lack of luxury has become a major cause in the reluctance of maids or assistance groups to accommodate with elderly people.

Fatima Al Kindi pointed out that most of the cases of complaints are from elderly women.

She disclosed that among those cases a 75 years old mother from an Arab nationality was living in luxury in one of the Gulf States and then her children travelled and settled down in different countries.

She added that the mother was moved to UAE to stay with one of her sons due to her inability to live alone.

She explained that the son never failed with his mother and tried as he could to provide basic needs but she was concerned that the rest of her children neglected her and she became a burden to her son in the UAE.
