Elevator doors almost wrench man's hand off

Like every morning, a teacher in Sharjah left his apartment to use the elevator to go to the ground floor and head to work.

“I waited for the lift to arrive. This time it took longer than usual,” said the teacher.

Since it was taking long for the elevator to come, he felt tired holding his bag full of examination papers so he put the bag down and waited.

“When the lift arrived, I quickly tried to pick up my things, but the door was closing fast. I did what people usually do… I placed my right hand in the middle to stop the door from closing,” said Mohammed [name changed].

The door gap kept narrowing and finally closed on Mohammed’s hand.

“I felt sever pain as the doors closed and I started to panic.

“I tried pulling out my hand but I could not. The elevator started to go up and was pulling me with it,” said the teacher.

“I reached the stage where I was standing on my toes. I told myself, I do not want to lose my fingers, so I wielded all my strength to pull my hand out.

“Thank God I managed to pull my hand out of the trap. The pain was unbearable and my hand was bleeding.”

Mohammed left everything on the floor and rushed back to his apartment shouting out to his wife to help.

His wife was in complete shock when she saw the blood on her husband’s hand and clothes.

She rushed him to the hospital where several stitches were administered on his hand.

But Mohammed is very grateful he didn’t lose his hand or any of his fingers.

“I was worried that I will not be able to write again.”

Later, Mohammed found out that the sensors on the elevator door were not working.
