Emarat Al Youm, one of the largest Arabic language tabloid newspapers in the Gulf, on Thursday marked nine years of its operations, completing plans to totally dispense with paper during its pre-print production stage.

“Emarat Al Youm has managed to reach the ‘hall without paper stage’ which allowed it to totally dispense with paper during its pre-print stage, using the latest in digital production and publication to become the second Arab newspaper, after its sister Al Bayan, in achieving this big leap in media,” the paper said.

It said the paper is now using what it termed as “news press” for digital publication, which enabled its staff to dispose of all paper during editing, proof reading and production, adding that such a development allowed to save time and effort.

“The application of the latest in digital publication and production brings additional challenges to our team and the readers…….this project, which reduces daily work time as well as financial and environmental costs, will effectively and positively affect the newspaper and benefit all its readers, subscribers and advertisers,” Emarat Al Youm editor in chief Sami Al Riyami said.

Emarat Al Youm, one of the most popular Arabic language dailies in the region, is part of the government-owned DMI, which also includes the English language Emirates 24|7, Al Bayan newspaper, Dubai TV and other publications.
