Emirates, Etihad resume Heathrow schedules

London’s Heathrow (LHR) airport resumed normal operations and the airport was cleared of snow, but flights continue to remain cancelled for the second day in a row.

While Emirates and Etihad resumed its daily schedules to LHR, British Airways has cancelled its two flights from Dubai.  

The BA 108 and BA 104 scheduled to depart at 10.05am and3.40pm remains cancelled.

The airline is operating only one of its scheduled flights from Dubai on Monday. However there are no disruptions in flights operating from LHR to Dubai.

Similarly all scheduled flights to and from Abu Dhabi have resumed normal operations.

The Heathrow airport in its statement yesterday afternoon confirmed that more flights would be disrupted despite a much improved situation.

“Heathrow is open. Our runways, taxiways and stands have been cleared of snow. Our snow plan has worked far better than in previous years and the airport is getting back to normal. However, there will still be disruption for passengers as indicated yesterday,” the statement said.

The statement further added that airlines would operate only about 50 per cent of the 1,300 flights originally scheduled. “We took the decision with airlines and air traffic control yesterday to reduce the flight schedule in advance. By cancelling flights in advance airlines have been able to rebook some people onto flights that are departing, and passengers have had better quality information about whether they can fly or not,” it added.

Meanwhile although no further snowfall has been reported, theairport did not ruled out further disruptions for today. “BAA, Heathrow Airlines and NATS met this (Sunday) morning and agreed that based on current weather forecasts, there is no need to reduce Heathrow’s flight schedule tomorrow (Monday). Heathrow’s usual flight schedule will operate. There may still be some cancellations as a result of today’s disruption with aircraft and crew needing to be repositioned. Passengers should check the status of their flight with their airline before travelling,” the statement said.
