Emirates Identity goes green

The headquarters of Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) will be completed by end-September in Khalifa City A and will become the first building in Middle East and North Africa (Mena) to implement new green technologies, Emirates 24|7 can reveal.

“The construction of our headquarters is progressing well. The tentative schedule of completion is end of September,” an Eida spokesperson said.

The building design has been inspired by the Emirates ID logo and has been designed by Magdy Mitry of Dar el Khaleej Consultants. The total construction area is 13,000 square metres.

Sustainability is the governing factor in design and construction, the spokesperson said.

“It is a green building in every sense of the term. The building design is 2 pearl approved by Estidama. The construction process also conforms to Estidama construction rating requirement with all construction material used also conforming to Estidama green materials requirements.”

The aim of the Pearl Building Rating System is to promote the development of sustainable buildings and improve quality of life. The rating system encourages water, energy and waste minimization, local material use and aims to improve supply chains for sustainable and recycled materials and products.

As per the Executive Council Order of May 2010, all new buildings must meet the 1 Pearl requirements starting in September 2010, while all government funded buildings must achieve minimum 2 Pearls.
According to Eida spokesperson, some of the systems installed are new and are being used in Abu Dhabi and Mena region for the first time.

“Systems such as the refrigerant leak detection system for outdoor chillers, use of thermally actuated air diffusers and sub-surface irrigation system for optimal water savings are being used for the first time in the region,” he added.
