A 29-year-old Emirati man died after he was electrocuted by a water cooler on top of a Ras Al Khaimah mountain as he tried to have a drink.

Salim Al Shehi was alone on a picnic on the mountain in Al Jeer area when he stepped out of his vehicle and headed for the water cooler.

“He tried to have a drink but was electrocuted by the cooler, he died instantly,” ‘Emarat Al Youm’ daily said, quoting Lt Colonel Ibrahim Matar, acting head of Maamoura police station in the northern emirate.
He said police and civil defence took the body to the coroner and that an investigation is underway into the case.

The paper quoted relatives as saying Salim is a bachelor who works at a government department in RAK and that he had gone to collect wood for his family.

A Pakistani worker in the area saw Salim lying motionless near the water cooler and called the police, the paper said.

It quoted Monzer Al Zaabi, RAK municipality director, as saying water coolers in that area are not licensed and are not controlled by any government department.

“These coolers are placed in many areas in the emirate. They are donated by some citizens as charity,” he said.
