A young Emirati man who was heading towards the hospital to be with his wife who had just delivered their baby boy was killed in a road accident in Ras Al Khaimah.

According to a report in Emarat Al Youm, 32-year-old Bilal Ismail’s car hit a motorcycle in Al Saweih area on Sunday evening and flipped over several times under the impact, injuring him critically.

Lt. Col. Ali Said Al Alkaim, Director, Department of Traffic and Patrols, Ras Al Khaimah Police, said Ismail was caught unawares when an Asian motorcyclist, identified as RBSH, entered the main road from a side lane.

A family member was quoted as saying that Ismail had admitted his wife for delivery early on Sunday and spent time with her until she delivered their baby boy at about 2pm. He then presented her with a bouquet of roses, and went home to fetch his mother and three sisters.

However, once he brought his family to the hospital, his mother had an asthma attack and so he had to once again return home to fetch her oxygen cylinder. The fateful accident occurred at about 7pm while he was returning to the hospital with the equipment.

Ismail who was rushed to the emergency unit with multiple fractures and internal bleeding, succumbed to his injuries three hours later.

His family is in a state of shock.

Ismail, who was with the armed forces, was the only son of his parents.
