The family of an Emirati man murdered by another national in Fujairah told court on Tuesday they had no intention to pardon the killer and insisted on his death, prompting the judge to adjourn hearings to early 2013.

The defendant had used a sword to stab the victim to death three times near a shopping mall in the eastern emirate after seeing his sister with him in his car.

A court had earlier sentenced the defendant to death after the victim’s relatives refused to accept diya (blood money) and offer pardon under Islamic law, prompting him to appeal. In the absence of key witnesses and refusal by the victim’s relatives to pardon the killer, the court on Tuesday adjourned hearings to January 7.

“We would like to see a sentence as soon as possible,” the victim’s brother Rashid Al Dahouri said, quoted by the Arabic language daily Al Khaleej.

“We have no intention to pardon the killer. My family will not rest before we all see this murderer receive the just punishment, which is death.”

Molester lashed at mall

A Saudi teen ager was lashed 80 times at a key shopping mall in the conservative Gulf Kingdom after he was caught harassing girls.

The country’s feared religious police, the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, had arrested the boy following a report by guards at the mall in the central town of Onaiza, Sabq newspaper said.

“A court sentenced the boy to 80 lashes at the mall where he was caught harassing girls…the sentence was carried out at the mall’s entrance in the presence of security officials and a large crowd,” it said.
