Emirati gives Dh16m to Zakat fund

An unknown Emirati man gave Dh16 million to the Zakat (Islamic charity) Fund, the biggest donation to be made by one person to the charity institution.

“This donor preferred not to reveal his name in pursuit of Godliness reward…he chose this fund as an institution enjoying confidence and transparency in distributing charity,” the Fund’s Secretary-General Abdullah al Muhairi said.

He said other donors had also exceeded the required Zakat level by donating more than Dhone million, adding that one donor had given Dh5m.

Muhairi said the Fund’s revenue sharply grew in 2011 and expected a further 15-20 per cent increase this year.
