A 20-year-old Emirati driver waited for one day before the end of a four-month deadline on fines discounts in Dubai and paid Dh70,000 in penalties he had accumulated because of speed and other offences.
The unnamed man had piled up fines of more than Dh100,000 but was allowed to pay Dh70,000 as part of the 40 per cent discount offer.
“He came to the traffic department yesterday and paid all his fines of nearly Dh70,000,” the Dubai-based Arabic language daily 'Al Bayan' said.
Dubai’s traffic police had seized the man’s vehicle for 200 days and suspended his driving licence for three months because of the offences which also exceeded his black point limit.
Dubai announced fines discounts for three months on September 10 but extended the offer until today.
