A group of Emirati students from an Abu Dhabi vocational institute will challenge the Guinness World Record in conjunction with the celebrations of the 43rd UAE National Day.

Two thousand Emirati students will attempt at breaking the current world record for having the most number of people to carry a flag. They are from Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute (ADVETI), an educational institution that empowers Emiratis with the competencies needed to contribute to the nation’s future development through workplace focused, lifelong technical and vocational education and training.

The bid, which takes place on November 30 (Sunday) at Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, from 8.00 am – 2.00 pm, will involve a UAE flag measuring two kilometers long and five meters wide.

Dr. Addel Al Ameri, Managing Director at ADVETI, said: "This event means more than just breaking a world record but serves as a symbol of loyalty of young Emiratis to their home country. Since the founding of the UAE, it has created its mark by breaking world records in various domains."

Abdulrahman Al Hammadi, Senior Director at ADVETI, said: "Every year ADVETI tries to bring something new for the students and to the UAE. The things we do comes from the heart, upholding the solidarity of our nation."

"Breaking the world record with the most number of students holding the UAE flag is exceptionally special as we commemorate the 43rd UAE National Day on December 2.”

Adnan Sultan Al Nuaimi, Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, said: "We are very proud to be a part of breaking a Guinness World Record particularly when UAE is involved. Also, two thousand Emirati students breaking the record adds flavour and excitement to the event as its shows the contribution of our future young generations to help their country reaching new heights."

The ADVETI students will be trying to break the record of the current titleholder from Italy, which had 1,795 participants carry a 1.797km long and 4.8 meter wide flag in 2011.

Representatives from the Guinness World Records will measure the length and breadth of the flag as well as count the number of participants to confirm whether the record has indeed been broken and that their feat is worthy to be entered into the world's most famous book of records.
