Emirati teen wins Cannes film award

The 3rd Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards revealed this year’s best corporate films, on-line media and TV Documentaries at the 2012 Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner Thursday, October 18th at Palm Beach Cannes.

More than 270 guests representing producers, film makers, marketing and communication professionals from corporations, public relations agencies, the public sector, and TV stations travelled from all over the world to join the celebrations.

An Emirati teen actor received the Gold Dolphin award at the Cannes Corporate and TV Festival for his role in a UAE environmental film.

Fourteen-year-old Ahmed al-Dahouri received the award for his role in ‘The Turtle’, a film produced in light of the UAE’s decision to ban plastic bags by 2013.

In a press release cannescorporate.com announced that out of a record number of entries, 666 (over 60% more than in 2011), from 35 countries worldwide, 129 productions were awarded the coveted Dolphin Trophies in Gold, Silver and Black in 36 categories.

The winners of this outstanding 3rd edition represent countries like Australia, Russia, The United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Morocco, Turkey, Austria, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, The Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, UK, Brazil, Mexico, the United States of America.

 

‘The Turtle’ is inspired by the Environment Ministry’s decision to move away from non-biodegradable plastic bags, the film was made for the UAE pavilion at Expo 2012 Yeosu, Korea, where it received a silver medal.

 

Dahouri, a schoolboy from the emirate of Ras al-Khaimah – one of the emirates that contribute the United Arab Emirates – said that he started his acting career by coincidence.
