Abdulla Al Gurg has been confirmed as one of the Olympic Torchbearers in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic Games in England later this year.

On Thursday 26 July, just a day before the Olympic commences, UAE national Abdulla Al Gurg will be running as a torchbearer on a stretch of the journey in the London Borough of Lambeth, England.

Abdulla Al Gurg expressed this opportunity as his honour, “I am humbled by this opportunity granted by Lloyds TSB and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games committee. It is an honour I accept on behalf of the ESAG Charity Foundation and my fellow countrymen. I hope my participation will contribute in a small manner to emphasis the inspirational power of the Games that unites people from all over the world.”

Al Gurg was nominated through the Lloyds TSB campaign and has been selected because he is an active member of the board of the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group (ESAG) Charity Foundation and his charitable contribution.

Lloyds TSB is a key sponsor with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games.

The names of over 7,000 people who will carry the Olympic Flame as torch bearers have been announced.

The torch bearers include some who have fought serious illness, people who have gone above and beyond for their community and being the source of inspiration for others.

The 70 day Olympic Torch Relay will start at Land’s End, Cornwall on the morning of 19 May 2012. The Olympic Flame will travel an estimated 8,000 miles around the UK.

The Olympic Flame will arrive at the Olympic Stadium on 27 July 2012 for the lighting of the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony, signifying the official start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
