Emirati woman, maid die in Oman crash

An Emirati woman and her domestic help died in a road acident in Oman over the weekend that claimed the lives of three other Omanis as well.

The fatal mishap also injured at least eight people.

An Omani motorist tried overtaking another vehicle in Qatbeit area but was caught unawares when a car came speeding in the opposite direction. He had neither space nor time to avoid a head-on collision.

Though police and ambulances arrived at the scene at the earliest, they couldn't help save the lives of the Emirati woman and her housemaid.

The injured have been admitted to the nearby hospital.

Plane to be sent to airlift injured people to UAE

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, has given orders to send a well-equipped medical aircraft, with an officer from the Ministry of Interior and a medical team from the Health Authority on board, to airlift seven Emiratis injured in a traffic accident in the Sultanate of Oman, to complete treatment in the UAE.

The Ministry of Interior, in a press statement, said four of them sustained serious and moderate injuries in the accident which took place yesterday Saturday when two vehicles collided in Maqshan, Oman.

All the injured were rushed to the Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah.
