A 23 year-old Emirati, identified as Mohammed Saeed, is now in critical condition following an attack on him by a group of youngsters armed with swords and knives last Thursday, the Arabic newspaper ‘Emarat Al Youm’ has reported.

Mohammed is now in coma in the intensive care unit of Dubai’s Rashid Hospital. Doctors at the hospital have performed five surgeries on Mohammed’s head.  Operations in the abdomen, kidneys, liver, spleen, intestines, hands and legs remain.

Mohammed lived with his family in a house in Oud Al Muteena 1 and was visiting a friend’s house in Oud Al Muteena 2 last Thursday.

Some youngsters attacked Mohammed as he was getting out of his car, his mother said.

“My son was alone when 15 of them assaulted him, dragged him to the top of the house where they continued beating and stabbing him with swords. He was soaked in blood,” she added.

She said she got a phone call from someone who told her that her son was lying seriously injured in front of a house in Oud Al Muteena 2.

“I immediately called the police and the emergency at Rashid Hospital. Accompanied by an ambulance, police rushed to the place and transferred my son immediately to the trauma centre at Rashid Hospital where doctors quickly admitted him in the intensive care because his condition was serious,” she added.

The mother of the victim said police had arrested her son’s attackers and was waiting for Mohammed’s condition to improve before recording his statement.

She denied any relationship between her son and the young attackers but said they had insulted him before during his visit to his friend’s house earlier.

A medical official in the intensive care unit at Rashid Hospital told ‘Emarat Al Youm’ that Mohammed’s condition is very critical.

Mohammed is now using a respirator and another surgery will be performed on him in the next few days, he added.
