Emiratis earn, Asians spend

Emiratis spend 38.1% of income on consumer goods (FILE)

UAE national households spend the most in the emirate of Dubai, according to a latest Dubai expenditure and income survey.
 
Their monthly spend averages at more than Dh24,000.

Emirati household annual spend average was Dh294,000 in 2009, leading all other nationalities, revealed a survey conducted by the Statistics  Centre of Dubai.

Among the rest, Europeans led in terms of the size of expenditure.

National households spent 38.1 per cent of their income on consumer goods per year against an average annual income of Dh772,000 last year.

In contrast, European households spent 44.6 per cent of their average annual income of about Dh552,000 on consumer goods.

The Arab household followed Emirati and Europeans with an annual consumption of Dh176,000, spending about 52.7 per cent of their annual
income which averages about Dh327,000.

Asian household comes in fourth place spending Dh129,000 annually, which is 52.7 per cent of their average annual income of Dh245,000.

Meanwhile, collective households (more than two families living together), spend Dh77,000 annually, which is 44.3 per cent of their average annual income of Dh174,000 and an average monthly income of Dh6,004.

Labourers spend Dh12,000 anually, which is 48 per cent of their annual income of Dh25,000.

Meanwhile, an Arab individual spends Dh54,000 annually, at a monthly average of Dh4,500. This is 53 per cent of his annual income of Dh102,000.

The Asian expatriate working in Dubai spends Dh39,000 annually, at a monthly average Dh3,002. This is 51.4 per cent of his annual income of
Dh76,000.

An individual in a collective household spends Dh14,000 per year at a monthly average of Dh1,001. This is 43.8 per cent of the annual income of Dh32,000.
