Emiratis want to retire at 45

The majority of Emiratis want the government to lower the age of retirement from 60 to 45 years, according to a survey conducted by the country’s pension authorities.

The survey showed 57 per cent of the more than 3,140 UAE nationals polled by the Pension and Social Services Authority want to retire at the age of 45 while 17 per cent favoured a retirement age at 50 years and eight per cent wanted it at 55 years.

“Only 16 per cent or 527 respondents supported the present retirement age of 60 years,” said the report which was published on the Authority’s website.

Emiratis account for nearly 20 per cent of the UAE’s estimated population of eight million. While they dominate the public sector, they account for less than 10 per cent of the private sector jobs.
