An engineer is accused of molesting a woman in the lift, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

AMQ, Indian, 36, is alleged to have groped TMA, 44, an Egyptian housewife, while she was with other three women in the lift on August 30.

The victim, TMA, testified that at around 8.30pm she got into the lift of their building along with her brother’s wife and her two daughters to go down from the third floor.

“The accused was in the lift next to the panel when we got in. The lift opened on the first floor. We expected the man to go out. But instead he came towards me wanting to grope me. I moved quickly towards the door to prevent it from closing, shouting at him ‘You are crazy’.  He touched me and my brother’s wife interfered and pulled him away and both of us walked out of the lift. The door was about to close again with my two daughters still in. We pushed the doors back and released the children. We started screaming for help. Residents of the first floor got out and some ran after him. I went with one of the neighbours and I saw him standing in the reception of the building. When I saw him I shouted ‘You’ and he replied ‘What happened?’, she testified. He was caught and held police arrived.

Her daughters and her brother’s wife repeated the same testimony.

Corporal Ahmad Abdul Rahman testified that the accused had denied intentional molestation of the woman.

His defence lawyer repeated the same defence saying that he was dizzy and exhausted from a gym session when the incident happened.

The court adjourned the case to December 26 for verdict.
