An Indian engineer working for a leading company in Sharjah has allegedly committed suicide in his apartment in Rolla on Friday, after locking his young wife and children out of the flat.

The 34-year-old Sudhi Kumar, who used to work as a design engineer with Lamprell Hamriya, was found dead, hanging, after he locked the family flat near the Fathima Supermarket in Rolla on Friday.

Kumar, who hails from Kayamkulam, Alappuzha district of Kerala, is survived by his wife and two children.

“On Friday, after 4.30pm, he locked the flat’s main entrance from inside, after forcibly pushing his wife and children out,” a friend of the family told Emirates 24|7.

“It appears to be suicide and the locked room was broken open by the Sharjah Police at night. The cops found the dead body of Sudhi Kumar and the body was later removed.

“The family members did not go back to the same room and are currently living with their relatives,” he said.

“He used to be very active and his Facebook page was updated quite recently. We feel sorry for such a sad demise,” he added.

The reason for the alleged suicide is not yet known, but some people believe it is related to family issues.

His Facebook page has already attracted condolence messages and comments from anxious friends and colleagues from the Engineering Department of his firm.

“It is shocking news. Can’t accept,” says a Facebook friend. Another friend of the deceased said: “So shocking to me… What had happened ...”

Another Facebook entry read: “What happened, someone please explain.”

His body is currently in the Kuwait Hospital morgue and relatives are trying to repatriate the body after completing the legal proceedings.
