Escaping bull cause panic on Sharjah streets

A massive bull, apparently maddened by a butcher’s attempt to slaughter it, broke off the man’s grip and rumbled across Sharjah streets in the early hours of the day to evoke scenes of the popular bull chases in Spanish cities.

The bull set itself loose on Tuesday morning as the Pakistani butcher was trying to tie it up to slaughter it on Wahda Street on the first day of Eid Al Adha (Muslim feast of sacrifice), the Arabic language daily Emirat Alyoum said on Thursday.

Although the butcher tried to chase the bull and bring it back under his control, it was clear that he realised he is not a matador, so he sought police help.

Like in Western cowboy movies, a big police squad rushed to the scene to control the mad bull before it gets madder and hurts people.

The police were armed with ropes but the only difference from the cowboy films was that they came riding cars not horses.

“After a chase of nearly 40 minutes, the police units succeeded in trapping the mad bull in a closed narrow place,” the paper said.

“They managed to tie it up and brought the butcher to slaughter it on the spot…the incident ended without any damage or human losses.”
