Fair weather over weekend; Dry heat to give way to humid conditions

Fair weather is expected in the UAE on Friday.

It may get partly cloudy over some areas during the day.

Moderate to light winds are expected and sea will be rough in the Arabian Gulf in the morning.

However, it may become moderate by afternoon.

Humidity is expected to increase during the night and early morning over some coastal and internal areas.

Similar weather conditions will continue the next day as well.

UAE weather alert: 48 hours of dust storms, low visibility

The UAE is bracing itself for 48 hours of dust storms and low visibility from today, with the only silver lining being a forecasted drop in temperatures of up to 8°Celsius by Thursday.

The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology has also issued a marine warning over the next 48-hours, but has ruled out rainfall, even as neighbouring Oman experienced heavy showers on Tuesday.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, a spokesperson from the NCMS spoke about the change in weather, saying the dusty, hazy weather will be blowing in from the northwestern region, namely Saudi Arabia and Iran.

The spokesperson said: “The north-westerly flow will give rise to the shamaals [hot desert winds] from Saudi Arabia and Iran, bringing in moderate to strong winds that can go up to 20 knots and greatly reduce visibility, especially in the interior parts of the UAE.”

Iran bore the brunt of a destructive dust storm on Monday, which left five people dead in its wake and destruction of property across Tehran.

The NCMS has, however, ruled out such an intensive storm would hit the UAE.

However, it’s not all dust and gloom until Friday.

The spokesperson added: “An increase in cloud cover on Wednesday will see the temperatures drop up to 6°C in some parts of the UAE, especially the interiors, followed by an additional 2°C drop on Thursday. This will bring relief to the high temperatures of 48°C that the country has experienced on Monday and Tuesday here.”

The marine warning will also last the duration of the shamaals, with the NCMS forecasting high waves up to 10 feet in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea, warning fishermen, tourists and divers to take caution in the deep waters.

The weather is expected to stabilise by Friday afternoon.
